(Chesterton, Ind.) – Chesterton High School has a new, state-of-the-art orchestra pit and stage lift thanks to Larson-Danielson’s Facility Services Group and Gala Systems. The unique project included the demolition and renovation of the orchestra pit.
The Facility Services Group team sawcut and removed approximately 450 square feet of 18- to 20-inch thick concrete floor from the existing orchestra pit and excavated approximately 30 cubic yards of saturated clay by hand. They also formed, placed, and finished approximately 35 cubic yards of new concrete to construct the orchestra pit walls and floor.
The project involved some creative thinking as the space was limited and could not accommodate full sized machine to remove the concrete or dirt. The Spiralift system for the electronic stage lift was installed and provided by Gala Systems.
