The La Porte Community School Corporation‘s new Transportation Building is now complete.

Construction of the state-of-the art, 18,871 square foot facility located on a 12-acre site on Stevens Road in La Porte began in July 2022. The new building was designed to replace an outdated facility, and combine maintenance and food service in one location.

With ample parking for transportation staff, bus drivers, visitors, and maintenance vehicles, the building can house and maintain up to 72 buses. The new transportation center features three service bays, a bus wash bay, and office suites, and various support spaces.

The property also has a workshop for the School Corporation’s maintenance department and a truck storage area. In addition, the site features a sheltered parking facility, a fueling island with a canopy in addition to the main transportation building.

The main building features a suite for drivers which includes a driver’s lounge/training area, and kitchenette/break room.

On Friday, August 11, local school and city officials gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the new facility. The celebration included a ribbon cutting, tours, and a reception.
