About Us: BUSINESS DIVERSITY

Promoting Diversity

At Larson-Danielson Construction, we are committed to building the communities in which we work, literally constructing a better world for all of us. We understand this requires creating meaningful opportunities for its residents and for the local trade contractors and suppliers. That is why we are committed to helping minority and women business enterprises, as well as small businesses in general.

Our commitment extends within our own ranks as well. In the past few years, the company has nearly doubled the employment of minorities and women on our jobs. We also understand the importance of providing even greater opportunities for future generations to join and grow in this exciting industry. We work with numerous organizations that help create these opportunities.

Why We Do It

It’s not about quotas, politics or philanthropy. It’s certainly more than just conforming to mandated EEO requirements. It’s about helping each other and working together. It’s about building communities and relationships.

Vendor and Subcontractor Initiative

We utilize a proactive approach to achieving minority- and women-owned business participation in our projects. We maintain a database of qualified MBE, WBE and VBE contractors who work in Northwest Indiana. We reference this database, along with the database of certified MBE, WBE and VBE suppliers and contractors maintained by the Indiana Department of Administration. We work with interested suppliers to ensure that they have all the project documentation they need, and that they feel comfortable bidding the project with us. We have found that this proactive approach results in greater participation of MBE, WBE and VBE vendors, and encourages more competitive proposals.

Workforce Initiative

We believe in increasing the diversity of the construction industry workforce, including women and minorities. In that effort, we have partnered with our trade union partners and other Northwest Indiana contractors to support the Indiana Plan, a pre-apprenticeship program to support and encourage diversity within the construction industry.
